about

***THIS ALBUM IS PART OF THE DYSTOPIA SERIES***

I wrote this during a huge PS1 binge. I was playing a lot of Resident Evil, Parasite Eve, Tekken 3, and Ridge Racer. Weird spooky interludes, and to top it all off mastered onto Cassette tape. I wanted this to sound like you are listening to it on a walkman. In general, this is a 90's inspired concept album about a belt scrolling survival horror game that doesn't exist.

Gear used:
MC303
Access Virus C
Yamaha SY77
Yamaha TX7
A dirty tube mixer
A dirty tape deck

The style is a clash between 90's style break beat/acid bassline VGM and super dark ambient suspense music. The up beat stuff represents the would be action and the dark stuff is the soundtrack to the scheming opposition. The name Forms vs. Shadows is a play on Plato's concept of the Forms and the allegory of the cave. Basically the heroes left the cave to discover the truths about their cyberpunk world.
